Maria is a proud Guatemalan woman, feminist, with a degree in Social Anthropology. From a young age she has fought for social justice working at the community level in Guatemala, the Mesoamerican region, and globally, for both local social movements and international organizations. Maria serves as the Co-director of JASS Mesoamerica where she focuses on knowledge production and is part of the JASS global Leadership Team.
Maria has accomplished a lot of work around conflict management in situations of armed conflict and peace building. She’s written articles and published several works related to regional contexts, the construction of peace and the contribution of women to these processes, as well as designed and facilitated training processes, with emphasis in recent years on Feminist Popular Education. Maria loves reading literature, swimming and cooking. She also enjoys knitting a lot! Maria deeply believes in equality and social justice and in a feminism that is built in collectivity and with love.
