Global Movement Builders’ School

Global Movement Builders’ School

October 30 – November 2, 2025 | South Africa

What 3,324 Feminists just told us about the world we’re fighting for

The response to the JASS’ first Global Movement Builders’ School has been extraordinary!

We received 3,324 applications from activists and organizers around the world. We are deeply grateful to every single person who took the time to apply and share their visions, struggles, and hopes with us. We have read every application. And we hear you. Your stories reflect an urgent need to come together, reimagine strategies and build collective power in the face of:

  • The global rise of authoritarianism and rightwing populism
  • Corporate capture of power and resources
  • Accelerating climate disasters and displacement
  • And intensifying attacks and efforts to roll back gains for women, LGBTQ people and others

This pilot school is a small step toward expanding our collective learning and solidarity through Feminist Popular Education (FPE) – a methodology we’ve refined over 25 years of work in Mesoamerica, Southeast Asia, and Southern Africa.

In the meantime, we want to share some tools and resources grounded in this practice:

The Power Guide: JUST POWER: A Guide for Activists and Changemakers—a vital resource designed to support activists, organizations, and movements in navigating and transforming the challenging contexts of today’s world.

Behind the scenes of Extractives Toolkit: JASS and our Count Me In! Consortium partners came together to work on this toolkit for land and environmental defenders confronting extractive industries.

We’re also planning more trainings and resources in the future. Stay connected by subscribing to our email list—you’ll be the first to know about new opportunities, resources, and tools for feminist movement building.

Due to the high volume of applications, we will be sharing the outcomes of the selection process during the week of June 9.

Thank you for your solidarity and interest,
The JASS Team

Who’s Eligible

  • Any activist, organizer, advocate, educator or change maker playing a leadership role in a social change organization, network or community group working for a more just world.
  • Applicants can reside in any country of the world. If you’re residing in a different country than your nationality, whatever the reason for that, you can also apply.
  • There are no age restrictions to apply.
  • People that have less than 5 years of experience working or being actively involved in community and organizing work.
  • Someone whose political work is primarily individual, not as part of an organized collective.

ABOUT APPLICATION PROCESS

The Global School is open for anyone working on social justice and movement building. Therefore, while there are no gender restrictions and male people are invited to apply, we especially encourage women and LBTQI+ people to apply.

While we know that there are different ways of organizing for social justice, we are looking for individual applicants who are part of collective social change efforts. We are accepting individual applications for the Global School.

People from any social justice organization (including collective, social movement, and those with or without legal status in their countries) are invited to apply. You do not need to belong to a legally registered organization. Grassroots leaders, informal collectives, community networks, and independent organizers are welcome to apply.

ABOUT THE GLOBAL SCHOOL

We will select approximately 50 participants from around the world, aiming for diversity across geography, movements, and identities.

The Global Movement Builders’ School will take place in South Africa from October 30 to November 2, 2025.

No. The participation in the Global School is 100% covered by JASS (including international and local travel, visa fees, accommodation, and meals for the duration of the School). However, participants from organizations with larger budgets (implementing agencies, big organizations, INGOs) will be asked for a % contribution to help defray costs.

The language of the School will be both English and Spanish, and simultaneous interpretation will be provided.  JASS is a regionally-rooted organization; the facilitators of the school come from the regions and speak either English or Spanish. It is expected that participants are able to participate in at least one of these languages comfortably.

FOR ACCEPTED PARTICIPANTS

Yes. For selected participants, JASS will provide the necessary documentation and support needed for visa applications.

We are committed to making the School as inclusive as possible. If selected, you will be asked to share any access needs,  and we will do our best to provide appropriate support.

Participants are expected to be fully present and actively engaged for the entire four days of the School. They should also commit to applying the learning in their organizing work and sharing it within their networks and communities.

While this is not a formal training or academic program, participants will receive a certificate of participation acknowledging their involvement in the School.
