5 women representing NGOs from Mexico spoke to the key topics most concerning women activists in Mexico: femicide, reversal of sexual and reproductive rights, violence against WHRD and women journalists, the cases of Atenco and Ciudad Juarez, lack of protection for domestic workers, trafficking of women, and others, in New York in July during the 52nd Session of the CEDAW Committee. Video images of feminists from Indonesia and Timor L'este joining together for a workshop to strengthen and diversify the leadership of women's movements through intergenerational political education, skills-building activities and trans-border learning. Later in 2008, JASS convened a larger regional institute for women of all ages working to address the combined challenges of poverty, labor exploitation, migration and trafficking facing women.

The Nobel Women's Initiative's (NWI) Women Redefining Democracy International Conference in which 120 women from 36 countries gathered in Guatemala to discuss the role of women in redefining democracy as well as formulating strategies on how to bridge the gap between women's human rights and democracy.
