In Zimbabwe we are anticipating elections and a referendum in 2013, and previously our experience has been that women face rape and sexual violence in these circumstances,” says Tariro Tandi of the Musasa Project, a JASS partner that focuses on violence against women in Zimbabwe.

On International Women Human Rights Defenders Day, and during the 16 Days of Activism against gender violence, JASS pays tribute to the women across the world fighting for justice and a better life in the face of political violence, repression, stigma and full out war. We especially want to recognize the women activists and leaders targeted as a strategy of war in Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Gaza, and the many women of Egypt. Join JASS and the international community as we celebrate and honor these courageous women and their movements!

“One fight, One Voice: Women, Assert Your Rights” was the overarching theme of JASS Southeast Asia’s 2nd annual One Day, One Voice regional campaign. Commemorating the global 16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women, during the first week of December, Southeast Asian women from Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia & the Philippines took to the street to denounce the increasingly alarming rate of state-sponsored gender-based violence.
