Today, JASS honors the Mesoamerican Women Human Rights Defenders Initiative, a political alliance that strengthens and mobilizes women human rights defenders in the volatile and increasingly violent contexts of Mesoamerica.
The Just Transition framework presents a holistic model of system change, from extractive profiteering towards "ecological restoration, community resilience, and social equity." Drawing from our own experience and concepts, JASS staff review both the strengths and the challenges in advancing this timely model.

“When a woman goes to a police station to report domestic violence in Malaysia, the police ask questions such as ‘how many children do you have?’ or ‘do you love your husband?’ Then she is told to go back home,” says Manohara Subramaniam of JASS Southeast Asia. This situation is so familiar. It happens in Malaysia, in all countries of Southeast Asia and in many places across the globe.
Although originally created in order to develop a common language, and history within the JASS community, we quickly realized the dictionary's potential as a vehicle for the political act of defining our world based on a distinct feminist perspective - one that recognizes how distortions in social, economic, and political power form the basis of inequality and justice.

The JASS community is steeped in a particularly political way of learning, analyzing, and taking action. From the beginning, this approach – feminist popular education – has shaped JASS’ vision and strategies. In 2011, JASS undertook a series of activities that highlighted what this approach has meant to the work. Drawing on the thinking and experience of many pioneering popular educators within the network, JASS set out to better understand and define how feminist popular education shapes our movement-building in different contexts.
In the beginning of the so called 21st Century, of one of the least civilized planets of the universe, the economic, political, symbolic, social and military power was in the hands of a few sick men who suffered from such a severe misogyny that they had come to despise life itself. The illness had appeared some five or six thousand years earlier, when the male humans discovered that they had something to do with the reproduction of their species.
