Yit Sophorn

A recent addition to JASS since November 2012, Yit Sophorn is JASS SEA’s program assistant. Yit completed a sociology degree at Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Cambodia in 2009. During her studies, she volunteered for different NGOs such as the Youth Resource Development Program (YRDP), Child Rights Foundation (CRF) and Gender and Development for Cambodia (GADC). With a focus on development, women’s & children’s rights, she gained skills in personal development which have amplified her understanding of social problems and social change.

Between January 2010 and June 2011, Yit worked as a Child Protection Program Officer at Save the Children where her responsibilities included monitoring, evaluating and implementing the program while also providing technical support. From August 2011, Yit worked as a Gender Trainer at Gender & Development for Cambodia (GADC) with a special focus on gender sensitivity and integration. She assisted in the development of a Gender Concept manual and the utilization of a Rights Based Approach during community work.

Through JASS, Yit aims to continue the fight for women's rights in different areas of their life such as the workplace, education and family.
