Join JASS in celebrating International Women’s month! In the 20 years since the Beijing World Women’s Conference, the Platform for Action remains as relevant as ever although the landscape has changed. Women are leading efforts for justice and equality everywhere yet often face risks for crossing the line and speaking out. This month, JASS will spotlight why movements are crucial to women’s power and security. Check out:

JASS on March 8th International Women’s Day (#womensday)

Our allies in Cambodia will be leading flash mobs, theater and dance. In New York, we will join thousands with our Women Crossing the Line banner at the March for Gender Equality and Women’s Rights.

JASS @ the UN Commission on the Status of Women (#CSW59) Events in New York

On March 9th, in New York, JASS will co-host Protection in Practice for Women Human Rights Defenders, including Norwegian State Secretary of Foreign Affairs Hans Brattskar and JASS Mesoamerica’s Cristina Hardaga, broadcast live on UN Web TV

On March 11, JASS will co-sponsor (with AWID and AFL-CIO) Women’s Economic Empowerment and Labor Rights Beijing +20 and Beyond to spotlight how women workers and their unions are organizing around the world to secure women’s fundamental labor rights.

On March 14th, JASS Southeast Asia’s Nani Zulminarni will speak about her work in Indonesia at Men in Charge? Rethinking Authority in Muslim Legal Tradition hosted by MUSAWAH.

JASS @ a 2-day Roundtable on the Role of African Women Leaders in the Post 2015 Development Agenda & +20 Beijing Review Process in Boston 

Simultaneously and in keeping with the Beijing+20 conversations, JASS Executive Director, Lisa VeneKlasen and JASS Southern Africa ally, Rudo Chigudu will participate in this round table hosted by Harvard Law Human Rights Program, Urgent Action Fund and the Ford Foundation-East Africa (March 9 & 10.)

JASS @ the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva 

On March 9th, JASS will co-host two events, Protection in Practice for Women Human Rights Defenders, including UN Special Rapporteur Michel Frost, and JASS allies from the award-winning Mesoamerican Women Human Rights Defenders Initiative and the National Network in Mexico will present alongside UN and EU officials during Women Defenders in the Violent Context in Mexico

JASS @ the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, Washington, DC 

JASS and allies Centro Prodh, Tlachinollan and CMDPDH will support frontline activists from our networks in Mexico to speak for themselves in front of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on the issues that matter most to them: Forced Disappearances and Impunity in Mexico, and Denouncing Sexual Torture against Women in Mexico (March 20.)
