200 Women Who Will Change the Way You See the World! Along with acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and brave planet guardian Vandana Shiva, is JASS’ very own Executive Director and Co-Founder, Lisa VeneKlasen!
#200Women, an exhibition and collection of original interviews and photographs featuring international change-makers, was unveiled on October 31, 2017. In the book, JASS’ leader highlights the importance of community and connection. In Lisa’s own words, “What really gives us meaning is being with others, as part of something greater than ourselves.“
This is what JASS is all about: building connections and a sense of belonging across all kinds of borders and boundaries to build collective power for justice. Yes, the movements and networks that we are building with all of you—movements to save the planet, build peace, ensure respect and dignity, and make our lives better—begin with women in conversation with each other and in their communities. Conversations that bridge differences, heal social divisions, and counter “othering.” Conversations that surface common issues, build trust and, eventually, collective power for change. This is the essence of JASS’ model for women-led political organizing.
In awe of the honor to be included among these 200 luminaries, Lisa said, “It’s really humbling to be counted with some of my very own sheroes. I know that it actually takes a village to be a recognized leader or voice for change. My own village is global because of the accidents and privileges of my own life, and by a passionate optimism that we can win; even in dark times there is light. I stand with and on the shoulders of so many women activists and thinkers whose courage and example inspires me every day.”
